Sea Eye Lake

Republic of Mari El, Russia

Description:

Lake "Sea Eye" is located in the Republic of Mari El and stands out among other lakes with a peculiar shape resembling a volcanic crater. The color of its water casts green, this color gives the water green, fragile to the touch of algae. The area of the lake is only 0.29 hectares, and the depth is 37 meters. It is also interesting that the time of formation of the lake is reliably unknown, but there are beautiful legends among the locals about the origin of the lake, passed down from generation to generation.

Locals, by the way, call the lake - Mushyl, this is its true name. Why is it called the Sea Eye? Of course, because of the color of the water, the bright emerald green color. If you look from the Sharin Mountain down to the valley, you can see a striking contrast between the color of the water in the Sea Eye and other nearby water bodies, where the water is ordinary blue.

Since the lake is located on the northern slope of the Sharin Mountains, the sun’s rays rarely fall here, so the vegetation along the shores is not rich. Here you can find forget-me-nots, arrowist, spruce, fir some mushrooms, mosses and lichens. Fish in this lake appeared most likely with waterfowl: eggs pestered to the feet of birds and migrated to other reservoirs with them.
