Mother's Monument in the Bay
ooh Herzena, 40, Cheboksary, Republic of Chuvashia, Russia
Description:
One of the main attractions of the city of Cheboksary is a composition dedicated to the Mother Patron of the Chuvash people, erected on the shore of the Cheboksary Bay. The size of the structure exceeds all the monuments created earlier in Chuvashia, together with the pedestal, its height is 46 meters. The project of the monument was developed according to the plan of Nikolai Fedorov, the first president of Chuvashia. For the construction of the monument, a charitable foundation was created on the initiative of the creative intelligentsia of the city. In the final stage of construction of the complex, many cadets of the military department of the Chuvash State University took an active part.
The grand opening of the monument took place on May 9, 2003, almost simultaneously a new museum was founded next to it, also named in honor of the Mother Patron. A rather serious conflict is associated with the monumental complex. Andrey Berman, the former rector of the Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God, accused Barnabas, Metropolitan of Cheboksary and Chuvash, of the sin of idolatry for the fact that the latter consecrated the monument of the Mother Protectress. Currently, the conflict is exhausted, and the majestic monumental complex continues to please guests and residents of the city.
