ooh Communal Sloboda, 32, Cheboksary
Description:
The decree on obtaining the status of a monastery dates from September 21, 1991. But the history of the monastery dates back to the XVI century, when Saint Guri of Kazan, visiting Cheboksary, brings with him as a gift to the Cheboksary the image of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. At the meeting place, the Sretensky Monastery was founded on the Vladimir Hill. In 1899, Archep. Kazan and Sviyazhsky blesses the women’s community on the Vladimir Hill, by the efforts of the abbess and sisters, by 1917 the monasteries of the community were completely restored. Then comes the godless Soviet time, the monastery is closed.
To date, more than 70 sisters work in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cheboksary monastery, among them one schema. Sisters bake bread, prosphora, make cheese butter, dairy products. The monastery has its own sewing workshop. With God’s help, prayer is poured into heaven. The monastery has a nursing home. The sisters take care of older women free of charge, thereby imitating Christ’s words: “Make these little brothers of mine one, you are my co-creator” (Matthew 25:40).
