Vveda Cathedral
Chuvash Republic, Cheboksary, Konstantin Ivanov Street, 21
Description:
The Vvedensky Cathedral in Cheboksary is the oldest building of the republic and a federal monument. At this place, the first temple (log) was founded in 1555 by Ivan the Terrible. Today’s stone building was built around the 1650s. In the cathedral there are aisles of Sergius of Radonezh, the man of God Saint Alexis, as well as the throne of the holy martyr Harlampius.
Until 1985, the Local History Museum was located here. The structure has been repeatedly repaired over the years, but the original appearance has been preserved. The interiors of the temple contain fresco paintings from the Classicist period and a magnificent iconostasis. Built separately, the bell tower of the cathedral, which has preserved its original outlines, is typical of Moscow architecture of the 17th century.
Particularly revered shrines of the Vvedensky Cathedral are the icons of the Vladimir Mother of God of the 16th century and the Savior images of the Smolensk Mother of God and Wonderworkers of Kazan Varsanophy, Herman, Guria with particles of the relics of saints.
