Poretsk Cultural and Historical Art Museum Complex

Unique for the Chuvash Republic is the existence in the Poretsky district of a historical and artistic museum complex uniting a folk art gallery and a local history museum, where access to all types of art is open: from architecture to painting and ornament, from dancing to theater, from music to sculpture. The collection of more than 200 paintings by 92 authors from all over the Russian Federation and more than 3 thousand authentic monuments of history and culture create a favorable situation for the preservation and development of artistic and traditional folk art and culture of the native land.

The historical and local history museum was opened in 1967, located in an ancient mansion built in the XIX century - the house of the merchant Gorodnichev. More than 3 thousand exhibits are stored and exhibited in the museum funds. Within the framework of the Year of Culture, a new exposition “Ethnography and life of the condemned in the XVIII-XIX centuries” was created in the local history museum. The ethnographic collection of the local history museum is one of the most expressive collections and has more than 500 items. These are collections of clothes, jewelry, household utensils, tools.

A large exposition area is occupied by an exposition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. Here are the drawings of the derelict A. Pakhomov from the concentration camp, and photographs of famous order-bearers, documents, medals, front letters and notices. The activity of the Poretsk Museum of Local History as a special cultural institution for the preservation of objects and information defines it not only as a special role in the study and preservation of historical monuments, but also as the personification of a small homeland, which cultivates patriotic respect and love for its land on the basis of authentic materials.

The museum carries out acquisition, storage, accounting, and popularization of museum objects and collections; conducts research work in the field of history and culture; carries out exposition and exhibition activities; provides excursion, lecture services for visitors, educational activities, conducts mass work among the population, local history readings, participates in seminars of republican significance.
