Estate Meshcherskoye
Meshcherskoye, Chekhov district, Moscow region, Russian Federation
Description:
The estate Meshcherskoe got its name from its first owner - Prince F.I. Meshchersky. After Meshchersky for seventy years, the estate belonged to the barons of Bode, who left a noticeable mark in the history of the manor architectural complex. Thanks to the donations of Bode in 1853, the Intercession Church was rebuilt in the village, and a stone chapel with a family crypt was built near it.
The main attraction of the estate, which has survived to this day, is the main manor house, which fully deserves such a characteristic as "exotic". The architect who created it managed to combine in his project incompatible elements - there is a pseudo-Russian narrowness, and plots on oriental motifs, and sculpture. Such buildings in the suburbs are no longer found. The decorative design of the two-storey building is distinguished by its richness and variety of forms, and the impressive size of the house makes it possible to call it a palace.
At the end of the XIX century, the owners of the estate changed several times, and in 1891 the estate was acquired by the Moscow Zemstvo government with the aim of establishing a psychiatric clinic. For the needs of the hospital, part of the park was cut down, several new buildings were built that surrounded the historical part of the estate and several modified its architectural appearance.
