In a picturesque area in the center of our city there is a corner where both children and adults are always happy to come - this is the city zoo. Our Zoo is a place where children and adults can relax and watch wild animals and birds, of which there are more than 100 species, including those listed in the Red Book: polar bear, snow leopard, Amur tigers, chimpanzees and others. The history of the Chelyabinsk Zoo is unusual and complex. In 1994, a private entrepreneur decided to create a zoo in Chelyabinsk. But the case turned out to be unprofitable - the animals demanded great attention and huge financial costs, and he abandoned his idea. So the animals were abandoned without care and food, in small iron cages in the winter under the open sky. But the citizens, led by the current director of the zoo Tyutina Galina Alekseevna, came out freezing animals and kept the idea of building a zoo in our city. On September 13, 1996, in the territory of the Central Park of Culture and Recreation, the Chelyabinsk Zoo opened its doors to its first visitors. Today, the Chelyabinsk Zoo is a unique place in our city. Visitors to the zoo admire not only animals, but also the beauty of the design of the territory, its flower beds and buildings. There is in our "City of animals" and a small town - Children's contact zoo. This is a unique place that you will not find in any zoo in Russia. It all began with the fact that a businessman Khaevsky decided to build a private zoo in the forest, in the North-West. Hired guards and began from different trips to bring exotic animals: bear, lion, bison, wolf. But something did not work out, our businessman did not work out and the animals were on the verge of starvation. It was a cold autumn in 1993. - I lived near the menagerie, - says the director of the zoo Galina Tyutina, - just snowed, it was cold. And when I saw the animals freezing, the wolf rushing in a tiny cage, I had tears in my eyes. I feel sorry for the beast. I met Hayevsky. He said the authorities were not helping him and he didn’t know what to do. It's been going since then. Like evening, I run to feed animals. I negotiated with a vegetable base, where for a bottle of cognac, for sweets I was given ice cream potatoes, spoiled carrots, cabbage. Running through the entrances, collecting cleansing, bones ... I come home from work and there's a bucket of waste under my door. The animals had to be saved from the cold. I went to the military unit for a big tent. After the winter, I thought the worst was over. Turns out not. The worst began in the spring, when the snow melted during the day, and frosts came at night. Zubricha stood knee-deep in icy water, and the bears were covered with an ice crust by the morning. The lion died. Drunk people often come in trying to play with animals. When I realized that the most critical moment was coming, I decided to tell the mayor of Chelyabinsk about everything. The administration refused to meet, did not talk on the phone. And that's when she called his house. The mayor picked up the phone himself. On the topic of the zoo did not talk, citing fatigue. At the main job, the situation became complicated, they began to look obliquely, they thought that I was getting money at the zoo. And soon a miracle happened. Galina Alekseevna received a call and was informed that Tarasov wanted to visit the menagerie. That was March 14, 1994. The mayor examined the menagerie and said something like this: "That's not a bad idea." We have to do something about it. This would be a good man..." The woman in the role of zoo director Vyacheslav Mikhailovich then, apparently, did not represent. In June 1994, Galina Alekseevna decided to leave her job. Go nowhere. There was no guarantee that she would be director of the zoo. It's been a long time since then. A lot has happened. The menagerie moved from the North-West to the Central District and became a real zoo. Tarasov recognized Galina Alekseevna as a leader and began to provide assistance. New enclosures and enclosures grew. New animals were acquired. Many industrial leaders and commercial firms did what they could. Galina Alekseevna is a well-known person in the city and she is not threatened. However, this year’s commitment to her work almost cost her life. According to the decree of the mayor, the fee for the right to trade at the fair at the circus should be directed to the needs of the zoo. There was almost no money coming in. However, it was a very decent amount. There was conflict around this money. Much has been said about it in various media. Tyutina was politely asked not to come to the market. Then they offered her money in person. Galina Alekseevna refused. She still demanded that the order be implemented. She was advised to go to the toilet with this document. Seeing that the director of the zoo was not calming down, she received a call: "Galina Alekseevna, what could happen to you?.." And yet there were casualties. One of the spring days, the grandson of Galina Alekseevna was left without a father. It was the hardest year of her life, 1998. Then Galina Alekseevna will say: “All my life I went to this zoo, without realizing it myself,” she said.
