Central Park of Culture and Rest named after Yu.A. Gagarin
Russia, Chelyabinsk, Yu.A. Gagarin Park of Culture and Recreation
Description:
The Central Park of Culture and Recreation not only borders on the urban forest, but also is closely connected with it by centuries of history. Already in the late XIX – early XX centuries, Chelyabinsk residents began to regularly visit the Chelyabinsk Bor.
In the early 1930s, local authorities thought about creating a park on the territory of the urban forest. The Moscow branch of Gosselenstroy developed a project of the park, it was exhibited in the city hall, at the end of May 1932 its public discussion took place, and, two years later, on May 18, 1934, the park was opened.
In 1935, east of the central park, on another section of pine forest, separated by the railway branch of the mill, the Dynamo stadium was built, and in 1936 a tram line to the stadium was commissioned. On the days of mass festivities, trams are sent to the stadium from all routes of the city. Thanks to this tram line, the accessibility of the central park has also increased.
January 1, 1937 grand city carnival-tree was held in the Park of culture and recreation. Amateur circles, circus artists performed here, a mass skating on threes took place, the largest skating rink in Chelyabinsk was organized, the center of which was decorated with a tree.
