Description:
Monument "Eagle" on the Red Field in Chelyabinsk is dedicated to the feat of young soldiers of the Red Army who fought in the Urals during the Civil War. The monument is considered one of the most striking monuments of Soviet architecture.
The monument was opened on October 19, 1958, its opening was timed to the fortieth anniversary of the formation of the Komsomol. Komsomol members of the Soviet district of Chelyabinsk came up with the idea of installing a monument to the young heroes of the civil war. It was decided to cast in bronze easel sculpture of L.N. Golovnitsky, which received the highest marks at various Soviet and world exhibitions.
The monument is a sculpture of a teenage boy dressed in military uniform – a coat, a papahu, army boots. Heavy clothing designed for an adult soldier in contrast to the young face of the "Eagle" creates drama and holds the viewer's attention.
The sculpture is considered an outstanding achievement of Soviet art, the image of "Eagle" formed the basis of the award badge.
