Description:
South Ural State University is one of the largest educational and research institutions in the Urals. Before the creation of federal universities (until 2006), it was considered the largest Russian university in terms of the number of students.
The year of foundation of the university is 1943. It was created on the basis of the mechanical institute evacuated to Chelyabinsk from Stalingrad. At the end of the last century, the main university educational building was reconstructed. According to the 1952 project, two floors, a tower and a spire were built.
Currently, the main building with a height of 86 meters is in second place in the list of the tallest buildings in the city. On the roof of the building for the 60th anniversary of the university were installed 2 copper 800-pound 8-meter sculptures: carrying fire Prometheus, a symbol of knowledge, and the goddess of Glory with a wreath - a reward for love of study.
