Great stone river Taganaya
Description:
The Great Stone River is one of the most famous, popular and easily accessible locations in the Taganay National Park, which is located about 2.5 hours from Chelyabinsk, on the northern outskirts of the city of Zlatoust.
The route from the entrance to the National Park (Central Manor) to the stone river is about 5 kilometers one way on a practically flat dirt road, without steep and protracted ascents and descents. On the way, the tourist will meet an observation deck with an unusual name "mother-in-law's tongue" and a suspension bridge across a small, picturesque mountain river.
The Taganai stone river is considered one of the longest in the world, its length is about 6-6.5 km, the width of the channel is up to 500 meters, the depth of the compressed stones is several meters. It is believed that the river arose during the last glaciation and due to its thickness and the fact that plants can not penetrate through it, it has survived to this day, not closed by the soil layer.
But if you listen, you can hear the streams murmuring under the stones!
The majesty of the panorama of the Great Stone River is given by the Taganaya peaks towering above it.
