Boris Pasternak Memorial Museum

ooh Lenina, 81, Chistopol

About the company:

The exposition of the museum is deployed in the house in which the poet lived during the evacuation in Chistopol. In the city, this small mansion is listed as a monument of history and architecture of the late XIX - early XX centuries. In this modest, three-window, two-storey house during the war lived the Vavilov family, which occupied a large room on the second floor, and in a small apartment Pasternak.

The house is quite well preserved, almost nothing has changed in its external and internal appearance since those distant war years. Old linden trees are still growing in front of the house. Pasternak also saw them. In the middle of the street - it is like a boulevard - a wide alley of old trees, a real park. Boris Leonidovich loved to walk in it. Both the forest park and the poplar, which the poet admired from the window of his room, all this creates a certain mood for emotional perception. Pasternak seems to be invisiblely present here, in a small courtyard near the house.

The ideological plan of the exposition - to show the humanism and high spirituality of Pasternak's work, the originality of his personality, his inseparable unity with the natural world, reverence for reality, as it is - is revealed with light "strokes", dim colors, ascetic, in restrained tones. This is most consistent with the “spirit” of Pasternak, who is alien to all pomposity and beauty.

Particular attention of visitors is attracted by things of memorial significance: a bed, Boris Leonidovich’s desk, chairs, a couch and a bookcase in the corner, a picture on the wall “Children running from the rain”. On the table are personal items: an inkwell and a cup holder. All this surrounded the poet in those harsh days.
