Chita

Lake Doronin

Russia, Trans-Baikal Territory, Chita region, Uletovsky district

Description:

Located in the Ingoda Valley, Doronin Lake is separated from the river by a stream of frozen volcanic lava. The water in the lake is salty, and its bottom is covered with a black or dark gray mud layer, the thickness of which reaches 7.5 meters. Doctors believe that silt, in large quantities containing glandular salts and aluminum compounds, can be used as a therapeutic agent.

But the main natural wealth of the unique Doroninsky Lake is its soda reserves, discovered in 1782 by the smelter of the Nerchinsky factories Efim Zalutsky. It should be noted that long before Zalutsky, local residents, Buryats, used soda, which was called Gujir, as a detergent, and also added to brick tea. Industrial development of soda, beginning at the end of the XVIII century, continued until the middle of the XX century. Since 1952, all mining activities for Gujira (soda) have been discontinued, since Lake Doronin is listed as a natural monument.
