Trans-Baikal Territory, Russia 286 km C

Description:

Heetay Caves are two karst caves that are located next door and are connected by a narrow underground ponnel. Their total length is 190 meters, and the amplitude is 35 meters.

The first feeling of a traveler, when after the Agin steppe scorched from the sun, he gets into the icy kingdom of the cave - this is a great surprise. After overcoming the 12-meter icefall, the traveler finds himself in a huge grotto of an ice cave with a ceiling height of up to 26 meters.

This is the first cave, which is called Ice (Wet). It is always cold here (from -7.1 to 0.8 ° C). The walls of the grottoes are decorated with ice crystals, and the water entering the cave freezes on the ice floor with unusual sculptures. Therefore, the name Heetei is translated from Buryat as “patterned”.

In total, in the Ice Cave there are four grottoes - Yurt, Big, Stupid and Bones. The cave has two tiers. The first is a large funnel with a diameter of about 60 meters and a depth of 30 meters. A large grotto is also called an ice grotto and it resembles a rhombus stretched to the northwest. The ice cave has icefalls, icing barks on the vaults and walls, frost, frost, ice stalactites and ice stalagmites.
