Malkhan ridge
Russia, Trans-Baikal Territory, between the Khilok and Chika rivers
Description:
The Malkhan Range is located in the Chita region, it originates in the territory of Buryatia, near the border with Mongolia. Rocky ledges covered with shrub and trees characteristic of the mountain taiga – pine trees, larch trees, cedars rugged by river beds with picturesque valleys – this is the main landscape that travelers who have visited this secluded northern corner can observe.
The Malkhan Range stretches for 360 kilometers and runs along the southern part of the Trans-Baikal Territory, originating in the Buryat Republic. The highest point of the ridge is 1741 meters. Its width ranges from ten to sixty kilometers, there is Malkhan ridge and several spurs. A trip to the mountains will be interesting both from the cognitive position of local lore and from the point of view of geology, since the massif is composed for the most part by rocks belonging to the Paleozoic and Precambrian formations, and the foundation for them is an even earlier, pre-Paleozoic granite formation.
