Lake Amut

Amut, Republic of Buryatia, Russia

Description:

Amut is a lake located in the north of Buryatia. It is the cleanest and most transparent lake in the Amut basin. It is located on the square of the Jergin Nature Reserve. From this lake originates the Amut River and unites it with the Barguzin River. By its origin, Amut is a moraine-pondpond lake, but the role of non-tectonic movements is not excluded.

The shore of the reservoir is composed of indigenous rocks, but there are also sand and gravel inclusions. In general, the lake is typically quite low water temperature. In summer, there is an inconstancy of the thermal regime.

In winter, herds of forest reindeer live on the shore of the lake. In the lake there are such species of fish as flax, garius, nalim and river minnow. At a depth of 5 meters, the highest vegetation is developed.
