Nerchinsk Museum of Local Lore named after M.D. Butin

Trans-Baikal Territory, Nerchinsk, Nerchinsky District, St. Soviet, 83

About the company:

The Nerchinsk Museum of Local Lore, the oldest in the Trans-Baikal Territory, was founded in 1886 by the political exile A.K. Kuznetsov. Its initial success, appreciated by many visiting eminent guests, among whom was the heir to the Russian throne Nicholas, soon gave way to a series of troubles: the buildings in which it was located were changed, the collections were stolen and destroyed. In 1938, the museum was assigned a close room of the Resurrection Cathedral, in which the expositions were placed until the beginning of the XXI century.

Since 2003, the museum is located in a unique architectural monument of federal significance - the Palace of the merchant, commercial adviser, gold miner and philanthropist M.D. Butin. The most famous exhibits of the museum are the mirrors of the company Saint-Gobain, bought by Butin in 1878 at the World Exhibition in Paris and for a long time considered the largest in the world, as well as the stained glass window of the court Royal-Bavarian glass dye F.K. Zettler. Today, the museum is one of the leading cultural institutions of Siberia and the Far East, contains more than 40,000 items of storage in its funds, acts as the initiator of socio-cultural projects implemented in the territory of Nerchinsk and Nerchinsk district.
