Chukhlom Local History Museum named after A.F.Pisemsky
About the company:
The museum was founded in 1919; most of the funds are made up of ruined surrounding estates. Ethnography (particularly interesting is the collection of women’s headdresses); exposition of noble life, including a collection of portraits of the Katenin family – from it came the poet and Decembrist Pavel Alexandrovich Katenin; nature.
The expositions of the local history museum tell about the past of the city and the district, about the animal and plant world of the Chukhlom region. Exhibits collected in 1920-30-ies serve as the basis of stock collections. Particularly valuable for the museum are items from the destroyed landlord estates (a series of portraits from the family estate of the Katenins); documents characterizing the activities of the district zemstvo, a collection of postcards and photos of the old Chukhloma, a collection of women’s headdresses. Of particular interest to Chukhlomich was the exposition on the pre-revolutionary past of the region and the city, which today is dismantled due to the lack of space. The museum has a small “Nature Department” with stuffed animals living in the area, birds and fish living on the Chukhlom Lake, including a unique “golden” carp.
