We invite you to come with us on a trip to Gunib. This is a mountainside village with a fascinating history. You will hear the story of the guide and the legend about one of the most famous and ancient villages of Dagestan, which is more like an open-air museum than a settlement.

In 1986, the first monument to the White Cranes in Dagestan was opened in the village of Gunib. It was opened by the poet Rasul Gamzatov and the composer Jan Frenkel – the authors of the immortal song “Cranes”, which became a memorial anthem, a mournful song about all who laid their heads on the battlefields. It was the world’s first monument to the White Cranes. Since then, over the cliff with a 27-meter stele made of marble, a crane wedge is trying to break into the underworld. This monument has become one of the main attractions of the Gunibsky district and all of Dagestan, located in the Victory Park. Now, following the example of the Gunib stele, more than thirty monuments to the Gamzatov “Cranes” have already been erected in different cities of our country and abroad.

In the village of Gunib, a 2-storey building in the form of a cross has been preserved. Now there is a local history museum. And in the 19th century, the families of the garrison command lived here. We'll visit this museum. It was here that the Soviet writer Olga Forsh was born and lived as a child. Her first impressions of childhood she described in the story “Dressed with stone”.

Next, we will go for a walk through the Upper Gunib Nature Park – a unique place with its microclimate, centuries-old history and monuments of the Caucasian War. Gunib is the place of the last battle of the Imam of Dagestan and Chechnya – Imam Shamil. Here we will visit the gazebo of Imam Shamil and the Tsar’s glade.

Mountain Dagestan is rich in unique natural monuments, they can be admired and surprised. Salta Gorge is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places of the Republic of Dagestan. Salta Gorge is unique for its natural tunnels through which the river flows. It attracts tourists not only from Russia, but also from all over the world, is a landmark of the Gunibsky district and the republic as a whole.
