Dombai

Dombay or Dombay meadow is a uniquely beautiful place located in the mountainous area in the south of Karachay-Cherkessia at an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level. On the cable car or gondola (cab) cable car you can climb to a height of 3200 meters above sea level.

Excursion to Dombai usually begins in the morning around 9 am, can earlier or later and ends somewhere in 19-00 - 21-00 pm. This whole day tour!

From the cities of KMV to Dombai to go about three to three and a half hours. Beautiful, picturesque road, will please you with its wonderful views. From the cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, there are three types of highway to Dombai. All of them intersect in the city of Karachayevsk and from there there is already one road along the Teberda gorge to the resort town of Teberda and then to the village of Dombay. The first is a flat road, through the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia - Cherkessk and then along the gorge of the Kuban River to Karachayevsk. The second road through Kislovodsk, then to the Eltarkach pass to the city of Ust-Dzhegut and along the Kuban River to Karachayevsk. And the third, probably the most picturesque road, through Kislovodsk, the Gumbashi Pass and go down from the pass to the city of Karachayevsk. At the pass "Gumbashi" there is an observation deck, from where in clear weather you can see a snow-covered chain of mountains - the main Caucasian ridge and Elbrus - the highest peak of the Caucasus. The height above sea level at the Gumbashi Pass reaches 2060 meters.

In the village of Dombay you can climb on lifts to the top of the Moussa-Achitar ridge to an altitude of 3200 meters. It will snow at this altitude all year round. Even on the hottest days of July and August. Also in the village of Dombay there are numerous cafes where you can try dishes of Caucasian and Karachay cuisine. There are souvenir shops where you can buy magnets, mugs, mountain herbal teas, jam and much more interesting.

Then, on the way back from Dombai, we stop at the beautiful mountain river Ullu-Murudzha. In the lower reaches of the "Ullu-Murudju" is a rapid and turbulent river, cascading down the ledges of a rocky bed. On the banks and in the channel huge boulders and fragments of rocks. The flow of the river is quite fast, on the way of the river there are many natural rapids of stone blocks. Be sure to take a picture here.

On the way back from Dombai we stop at the resort town Teberda. Here we will drink mineral water in a drinking pool and visit the Teberda State Biosphere Reserve. Entrance to the commandments is paid. The cost is 100p per person. In the reserve in fairly large enclosures, we will see: bison, tours, boars, chamois, noble den, donkey, roe deer, brown and Himalayan black bears, wolves, jackals, Caucasian lynx, fox, raccoon dog, forest cat, Caucasian otter, bald sip, black neck, vulture, spoolph, swans and many others. I always advise my visitors at the entrance to the reserve to buy bread (a few loaves of bread) and feed the animals. But not all animals can be fed bread. Predators will not eat bread. You need to buy separate food for them.
