Yekaterinburg with an Italian accent: Unexpected facets of a familiar city

Description:

You love Ekaterinburg, but you think you know everything about it? And what if we add to the usual Ural color a pinch of sunny Italy?

I invite you to a unique walk! This is a tour for those who are not afraid to look wider, who want to discover real Italian faces in the harsh Ural capital. Familiar monuments and familiar facades will suddenly flirt with new colors when interesting stories will open behind them, transferring us directly to the Apennine Peninsula.

Most importantly, I will share with you exclusive facts and personal insights from my experience as a translator. What is not written in guidebooks, you will hear in the first person. Ready to feel the Italian wind in the heart of the Urals?

Our route will be short but incredibly busy. In just 2 hours, we will race from 1905 Square to the Opera House, but look at familiar places with completely different eyes:

  • The Box House: Look at its facade. Why is it so unusual and what secrets does it hide?
  • Monument to Lenin: Did you know what was here before? What does this have to do with Italy? (Spoiler: the most direct!)
  • City administration building: Look closely! Did you notice the renaissance in his appearance?
  • Monument to the founders of Yekaterinburg: Previously, a stone-carving factory was noisy here. Did you know that local amethysts once conquered the world?
  • Rock junction on the Dam: A fascinating story about who was the first Italian translator in our city. I'm sure you know this man!
  • Opera House: Let's talk about the great opera and the first conductor of the theater.
  • Burials of Italian prisoners of war: The subject is serious and even a little sad. I will share materials from my personal translation experience that will not leave anyone indifferent.
  • First Pizzeria of Sverdlovsk: Let's end on an optimistic note! You will be amazed at how the people of Sverdlovsk imagined real Italian pizza.
