I invite you to the author’s walking tour along Weiner Street – from the fortress walls of the XVIII century to the pedestrian street of the XXI century.
You will see a city where merchant mansions of the XIX century coexist with constructivist buildings of the 30s of the XX century and modern shopping centers of the XXI century, and history meets the present right before your eyes.
What you'll discover:
18th century: Foundation. We learn how the main trading artery of the city began to grow out of the defensive rampart.
19th century: Golden age of merchants. What is the phenomenon of the success of universal stores of the Second and Agafurov? We will talk about how they were ahead of their time when they created the first shopping malls, and why all of Russia knew them.
We will hear unique stories: how a trading house became a theater, and the theater became a store again.
20th century: Experimental time. The house-commune is a time of constructivism. We will find out for whom these apartment-cells were built and what life was like in them.
We will also reveal the detective story of the evacuation of the Hermitage treasures to Sverdlovsk and find out why the mansion of the merchant Bardygin became their refuge.
21st century: Heritage and modernity. Lights of modern shopping centers "Greenwich" and "Passage", festive showcases will create a real New Year's mood and the opportunity to take atmospheric photos.
Arbat of desires: on Weiner Street, sculptures, fountains and places of power await you, where you make wishes, ask for love, wealth, success and study. Check out how magical they are!
We discuss, argue, wonder, laugh and make wishes on the street, where each step connects the past and the future. I will show historical photos, tell about people who were not afraid to dream and change first, and you will be able to try on the role of a merchant, architect or newcomer “commune houses”.
