Michael-Arkhangelsk Temple

Russia, Yekaterinburg, St. Green Grove.

Description:

The Michael-Arkhangelsk Church is a former cemetery church in the city of Yekaterinburg. The church began to be built in order to settle the conflict between the parishioners of Zlatoust (Svyato-Troitsky) and the Savior parishes, for which land was allocated for a common burial place. As a result of these strained relations between the communities, one of them – Spasskaya, was not allowed to bury the dead on the common territory.

In 1852, at the request of the local merchant Maxim Ivanovich Korobkov, who later became the Yekaterinburg mayor, land was allocated for a new cemetery and a cemetery church. The temple was built on the personal funds of a merchant.

The new Michael-Arkhangelsk Church was built without a parable. Services in it were rare. By the beginning of the twentieth century, a stone one-storey temple with 7 chapters had its own bell tower.

Like many other churches, the Church of Michael-Arkhangelsk since 1929 was closed for a long time, and all church valuables were seized to meet the needs of the hungry. In our time, the rebuilt and restored church became part of the Simeonovskiy Compound of the New Tikhvin Women's Monastery.
