Simeon's Temple

Russia, Sverdlovsk region, Verkhotursky district, Merkushino village.

Description:

The temple of Simeonov or, as it is also called - Simeonov Church or the church of Simeon of Verkhotur, was built over the grave of righteous Simeon of Verkhotur. The church was consecrated in 1886, since 1994 it has become part of the Ekaterinburg Spassky Monastery.

The architecture of the Simeon temple, built in the form of a symmetrical sarcophagus, indicates its purpose of construction - the church was to serve as a mausoleum, a tomb. That is why it is strictly symmetrical, has a pronounced form of a sarcophagus.

Despite the long period of Soviet power, the church has retained all its interior decoration: iconostasis, kyotas, panicadils and granite floors. The whole church complex has quite impressive dimensions - a gallery of 33 meters long, a paper - 23 meters. In 2004, the Simeonov temple was completely renovated and restored.
