The Temple of the Merciful Savior

Yekaterinburg, street. Bisertskaya, 12 and

Description:

The temple in the name of the All-Merciful Savior is located on the territory of the New Tikhvin convent in the Elizabeth area. It became the first church returned to the Orthodox Church in Yekaterinburg after the atrocities of the Soviet authorities.

The three-chaired stone church was built in 1876 and became the heart of the monastery compound. Under Soviet rule, the temple was barbarously looted. On the territory of the monastery, a collective farm was opened, and the temple was used as a warehouse and a station for tractors. In the 1980s, the sanctuary was an extremely pathetic picture: informal youth gathered in the finally empty building, the temple survived several fires and was badly destroyed.

In 1989, after major repairs, carried out with the help of local residents and church brethren, the first service was held in the renovated church. Here are stored the relics of Simeon Verkhotursky and the relics of Vasilisk of Siberia, a saint very revered not only in Yekaterinburg, but throughout the Urals.
