Keyboard monument
Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region, Russia, between Gorky 14a and Gorky 28a.
Description:
One of the most original monuments of the city of Yekaterinburg is the monument "Keyboard". This land-art sculpture is placed on the embankment of the Iset River. The monument was opened for public viewing on October 5, 2005. The creator of such an architectural phenomenon was Anatoly Vyatkin. The monument itself is a copy of a computer keyboard made of concrete, with a scale of 30:1.
The sculpture consists of 86 keys, the weight of which ranges from 80 to 500 kg. The heaviest key is "space", its weight is half a ton. The area occupied by the monument is quite large – it is 16 x 4 sq.m. Concrete keys copy the layout in the same order as on the standard keyboard. They have a flat surface, and only the applied alphabet and functional symbols are distinguished by relief.
It turned out to be not so easy to make it into reality: the sculptor performed almost all the work by hand. It took more than a month to create the monument, and a week to install it. Especially "inquisitive" citizens somehow managed to steal a few keys: F1, F2, F3, Y, and on the Windows key appeared the familiar Apple logo.
Monument "Keyboard" is the most unusual monument that immortalized the era of computer technology.
