1905 Square and Administration Building
Russia, Yekaterinburg, Upper Iset district, center.
Description:
The Square of 1905 and the Administration building are the local sights of Yekaterinburg. Throughout its history, the main square of the city has changed more than one name. In different periods of time it was called Trade, Main, Central and Cathedral. The name we know today came after the revolution. Local residents consider this square a historical place, since the age of the square corresponds to the age of Yekaterinburg itself.
In pre-revolutionary times, the main building around which the life of citizens was active was the Cathedral, which was founded in the distant 1771. Nowadays, the eyes of local residents are turned to the building of the Administration, which was built between 1947 and 1954. At that time the building was called City Council. The main construction work was entrusted to the German prisoners.
The Administration building attracts attention with its original architecture, the structure was decorated with a tower that ends with a metal gilded spire with a ruby star, and the clock-curantes show the exact time, beating the melody every 15 minutes.
