Ural State University
lenin Avenue, 51, Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region, Russia
Description:
Ural State University named after A. M. Gorky is one of the most popular universities in Russia. It was founded in 1920 and quickly became popular. In May 2011, the institution ceased to exist as an independent legal entity, as it was attached to the Ural Federal University. In front of the entrance to its main building there is a monument to the revolutionary Yakov Sverlov, in whose honor from 1924 to 1991 Yekaterinburg bore the name Sverdlovsk.
The building of the Ural State University named after A. M. Gorky impresses with its grandeur and beauty. It was made in the classical style, which is characterized by correct architectural forms and symmetrical compositions. In front of the entrance to the institution there are four large columns connected by three spans in the form of arches. Above them is the bronze emblem of the Soviet Union and an inscription with the name of the university. The facade of the building is decorated with large mirror windows and stucco. Near the university there is a small well-kept park equipped with benches and fountains. This is a very noisy place, as hundreds of tourists gather here every day to walk and relax in the shade of broad-leaved trees.
