Church-chapel of George the Victorious
Republic of Kalmykia, Elista, Chess Town (City-Chess)
Description:
The church-chapel of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Elista (near the “Chess Town” of the City-Chess) is ascribed to the cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Virgin of Elista and Kalmyk diocese.
The chapel was created in 1998, and in honor of the 33-year Chess Olympiad was opened on the day of its holding. The building is made in the shape of a cube, which helps to accommodate a large number of people (up to 100 people). The chapel itself is built of wood, on top of which is located with a dome with a cross. The church was created on the donations of Elena Baturina and is a wonderful reminder for the city.
