Elista is an amazing city, representatives of completely different religions live here, but the bulk are adherents of Buddhism. The city has Buddhist temples and various attributes of this religion.
One of the important sights of the city, you can include a pagoda with a statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. It is installed in the square behind the government building of Kalmykia. This is the only example of a statue being erected outside a Buddhist temple. The grand opening of the statue took place on July 9, 1995.
The monument is a statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, enclosed inside a hexagonal rotunda - a pagoda, which is decorated with characteristic paintings and ornaments. The statue is made of white marble. In the last year, the Buddha is covered in a yellow robe.
The Buddha himself is depicted in a corresponding meditative posture. His left hand holds a monastic cup intended for alms, and his right hand points to the ground.
In front of the pagoda there is a memorial sign – a round bowl on the pedestal. It has an inscription in English, Kalmyk and Russian.
