Description:

The sculpture “At the Source” is one of the most interesting street sculptures of Elista, the capital of Kalmykia. The statue is located in the very center of the city, on the Boulevard of Lenin Street.

The sculpture “At the source” appeared in Elista in 1997 – it was created by the famous Russian sculptor A. Knysh from Penza, who made his creation as part of the biennial competition. The sculptural group depicts a young mother with a child in her arms. A woman sits on a horse that came to the watering hole and bent over the stream. According to the creator, the sculpture should symbolize the calm past of the Kalmyk people. The statue really looks very melancholy and peaceful.

Today, the sculpture “At the source” is a small, but very beautiful attraction of Elista. It attracts the eyes of tourists and decorates the urban landscape.
