South Gate of the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni
V. I. Lenin St. 260, Elista, Kalmykia, Russia
Description:
The southern gate of the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni is a beautiful gate in the oriental style, preceding the entrance to the largest Buddhist temple in Russia and all of Europe. As you can guess from the name, the gate is located on the south side of the building and is considered one of the most beautiful sights of Elista.
The southern gate is built in the traditional oriental style and is painted in three colors - red, blue and gold. The gates look very colorful and solemn - after all, according to Buddhist traditions, the South Gate is considered the main entrance to the territory of the Golden Monastery, although in addition to them, three more gates lead to the temple, oriented to the cardinal points.
Immediately from the entrance begins a paved path leading directly to the temple. Also near the gate is a beautiful white marble statue depicting Tsagan Aav, a Kalmyk pagan god.
