Car-Museum of Stalin's deportation of Kalmyks

Russia, Republic of Kalmykia, Elista

About the company:

In 1943, Stalin issued a decree on the liquidation of the Kalmyk Republic and the deportation of Kalmyks to the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories, the Omsk and Novosibirsk regions. The law was motivated by the fact that part of the Kalmyks during the occupation of the territory of Kalmykia by the Nazis served in the German detachments of the Wehrmacht. Kalmyk families were sent far beyond their homeland without any proceedings.

In 1989, the Supreme Soviet of the USSR recognized the fact of barbaric action against the Kalmyk people. In memory of this, a monument was erected in Elista, and one of the cars was stopped in the museum, where you can see some of the personal belongings of those who were deported to Siberia, see photos and documents related to this period.
