Reserves of Kalmykia

Kalmykia is a small republic in the south of the country with a distinctive culture and people, the only one in Europe who professes Buddhism. Steppe expanses, ancient mounds, lotus fields and the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. The unique flora and fauna of Kalmykia is unique and diverse, therefore specially protected natural territories of federal and regional significance have been created in the republic to protect rare species of birds and animals. The republic has 13 reserves (4 federal and 9 regional).
