Theodosius “Given by the Gods” has a long and rich history connected with the fate of many peoples. The Greek colony of Theodosius, the Goto-Alanian city of Ardavda “Semibozhnaya”, the capital of the Genoese colonies Kafa, the residence of the viceroy of the Turkish Sultan Kefe – these are the main milestones in the history of the city.
The quarantine fortress, standing on the path of the caravan routes, and now, with its ruins, reminds of the former greatness of the city. On its territory there are medieval temples with frescoes, presumably Theophanes the Greek. Several shrines have been preserved to this day, including the temple of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God.
Of considerable interest is the existing mosque Mufti Jami - an architectural monument of the 17th century and many other shrines of this wonderful city.
Feodosia is famous for the art gallery created in the house in which Aivazovsky lived for many years, who did a lot for the prosperity of his native city. The legacy of Aivazovsky is a whole pictorial encyclopedia of the sea - 6000 paintings. An enthusiastic singer of the sea, skillfully conveying the beauty and power of the elements on canvas, the artist gave the world the most spectacular and impressive, full of drama and admiration, canvases in the marina genre.
Aivazovsky is buried next to the Armenian temple of St. Sergius (Sarkis), presumably built in the 14th century, on the territory of which there are stone slabs - khachkars, inscriptions in the Armenian language.
Near the embankment there is a small house - a museum in which the wonderful novelist Alexander Green lived, here he wrote his best works.
