D.A.Furmanov Memorial Museum

In the 1950s, the director of secondary school No. 6 in Furmanova V.A. Lapshin, together with his students, decided to create a museum and began to carry out search work to collect material. In 1958, the local history museum of Furmanov was created on a voluntary basis. The founder and director of the museum was V.A. Lapshin himself, and his students were the first guides.
In 1960, the museum was awarded the title of People’s Museum. In 1964, by the decision of the Furmanovsk City Executive Committee, the former building of the city library was transferred to the museum. In 1968, the museum received the status of the state and is part of the Ivanovo Regional Museum of Local History.
In the mid-90s of the last century, the museum was closed due to the need to create a new museum that meets the modern requirements of building an exposition of a local history museum.
On October 26, 2005, after a long period of 10 years, the D.A. Furmanov Museum reopened its doors to residents and guests of Furmanov. In the museum exhibition "Sereda". A look from the XXI century" dedicated to the history of the city of K.XIX - early XX centuries, (from 1891 to 1941, when the city was named after D.A. Furmanov, a panorama of the life of Sereda-Furmanov) is presented a panorama of the life of the region with its political and social upheavals. The exposition is built on originals, a significant part of which: documents, paintings, household items, rare books, clothes. The picturesque range is represented by the works of the artist D.A. Trubnikov (1885-1947).
In one of the halls of the museum, the memorial room of the Furmanov family was restored, where the future writer D.A. Furmanov (1891-1926) was born and spent his childhood years. His life and creative path is also presented in the historical part of the exposition. There you can see lifetime editions of the author of the famous novel “Chapaev”, authentic photos and personal letters of the writer, whose name the city bears.
In the exhibition hall, exhibitions of painting, graphics, photography, objects of decorative and applied art, local history exhibitions from the museum funds open monthly.
Once a quarter, the museum hosts traditional events - a music living room and a poetry salon. The program of museum classes for students in the interior of the exposition is carried out taking into account the age and psychological characteristics of the audience.
The museum carries out its activities as a center of cultural and patriotic education, actively participates in various creative processes of the city and district, confirming its local history profile.
