The museum in Gelendzhik was “born” three times: in 1909, 1920, 1949 July 18, 1909 the owners of the Thin Cape opened the “Natural Historical Museum”. The museum was started by the archaeological collections of Professor V. B. Sakhanev, which were placed in the gatehouse of Mikhail Mikhailovich Reinke. In 1912, at the exhibition "Caucasian Riviera" in St. Petersburg, the Gelendzhik Museum was awarded a diploma and a gold medal for exhibited archaeological collections.
In 1913, due to lack of space, the museum was closed. In 1920, on the initiative of M.M. Reinke, the museum was revived under the name "Museum of Nature and History". During the Great Patriotic War the museum was destroyed. Since May 1949, the museum has been located in the premises of the former school, at 23 Lenin Street, where it is currently located. |
