Gorokhovets Historical and Architectural Museum

Vladimir region, Gorokhovets, Gorokhovets district, street. Nagornaya, 4

About the company:

A magnificent example of ancient Russian stone residential architecture. The house was built by the richest merchant Gorokhovets Semyon Ershov, who was one of the hundred richest merchants in Russia. Located at the foot of the Puzhal Mountain.

Its monumental volume rises among the wooden buildings. The facade decor is characteristic of the Russian narrowness of the end of the XVII century. The same period corresponds to the interiors: vaulted walls and stairs inside the walls. Initially, the house, as now, had three floors, including a basement (podklet), but the upper was wooden, like most similar Posad houses Gorokhovets. At the end of the XVIII century. the wooden floor due to dilapidation was replaced by the existing stone, an entrance extension of three floors was made. The gate has been preserved from the ancient fence of the site - an example of ancient Russian architecture of small forms; the only monument of wooden architecture of the XVII century in the Vladimir region.
