Snow peaks of the Sharoi-Argun gorge

Beautiful mountains, magnificent history, captured in the castle complex Sharoy, and clean mountain air, saturated with splashes from the highest waterfall in the Chechen Republic, all this is only a small part of what awaits guests on a fascinating trip to the Sharoy district of the Chechen Republic.

Sharoi district, the southernmost, the most remote from the center, the most inaccessible until recently (asphalt was laid in October 2020), the highest of all fifteen districts of Chechnya. In Chechnya, this is a land in the depths of the mountains, which preserved the pristine beauty of nature and the ancient history of the Chechens, captured in the castle complex Sharoy and in the military and residential towers scattered along the picturesque gorge of the Sharoy-Argun River.

In addition, this area is the most sparsely populated in more than a million republics, the permanent population is less than three thousand people. Half of the area, if not more, belongs to the border zone. To the south, immediately beyond the Tushetsky ridge, Georgia begins.

On our trip you will enjoy stunning views of the Sharoy-Argun river gorge. Along the riverbed of the Sharoy-Argun are scattered the ancient villages of Dai, Himoy, Sharoy and on the tributary of the river is the village of Nokhch-Keloy, which is one of the most picturesque and high waterfalls of Chechnya. To get to the waterfall, you will have to walk 900 meters along a hiking trail among the alpine meadows, contemplating the unusually beautiful peaks of the mountains and at the end the trail enters the river gorge. Jumping over the stones and crossing small wooden bridges, you stick into a vertical wall from which water flows fall forming a waterfall from a height of 54 meters.

The end point of the route is the village of Sharoy, in which on the ridge there is a castle complex consisting of seven combat and a dozen destroyed battle towers.

The sparsely populated area contributes to the fact that the road in most cases is deserted and guests can stop anywhere and watch the stunning beauty of natural and historical monuments without the noise of cars.
