About the company:

The Literary and Ethnographic Museum of L.N. Tolstoy was established by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the CIASSSR on 31.12.1980 and by the Order of the Minister of Culture of the RSFSR No. 82 of 12.02.1980 as a branch of the Chechen-Ingush Museum of Local Lore.

The museum was created by teachers Ivan Kirillovich Radchenko and Nadezhda Mikhailovna Radchenko. Initially, the museum was housed in the former school building, built in 1913 at the expense of villagers. This school, the first in Russia, was named after Leo Tolstoy in 1914. Later, the main exhibition areas of the museum were located in this building. Today, interest in the writer and his years in the Caucasus is still great. Visitors from all regions of Russia come to the museum.

Today, the Tolstoy Museum, which has survived all the hardships of the war years, appears before visitors in an updated form. In the new building of the museum, which was built in 2009 with the support of the Regional Charitable Foundation of A.A. Kadyrov, with beautiful bright exposition areas, expositions will be presented in accordance with the profile of the museum. Of the two years and seven months that the patriarch of Russian literature Leo Tolstoy lived in Chechnya, he spent a year and seven months in the village of Starogladovskaya and became famous after writing famous stories on Caucasian subjects here. There is also a typological corner - "Cossack and Highlander Court of the middle of the XIX century". These are stylized buildings of the times of L.N. Tolstoy, household items, tools. Tolstoy’s Literary and Ethnographic Museum is unique. The material and spiritual values of the peoples of the North Caucasus came together. The director of the museum is Zagibov Salavdi.
