Lake Kisi

Ulch district of the Khabarovsk Territory, Russia.

Description:

Kizi is a large freshwater lake located in the Ulch district in the Khabarovsk Territory in the Amur basin, near the foot of the mountains. The area of the water mirror is 280 square kilometers and depends on the water level, the depth is about 4 meters.

The lake is located at an altitude of 6 meters above sea level, in the right-bank part of the Amur River. A series of ducts connects it to Amur. The reservoir is divided into several springs: Upper Kisi, Lower Kisi and the Bay of Aya. A small narrow strip of land, whose height is 55 meters and width is 8.5 kilometers, separates the lake from the Tatar Strait. Through this lowland, there is a canal project that would avoid the shallow and dangerous estuaries of the Amur River and lengthen the period of navigation, because the lower part of the Amur current is much longer covered with ice.
