The city of Khanty-Mansiysk is located in Western Siberia on the banks of the Irtysh River, is the administrative center of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra.
Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra is the historical homeland of small ethnic groups: Khanty, Mansi, Nenets. Today, these indigenous peoples make up 2% of the total population of the district, or about 30,000 people.
The year of foundation of Khanty-Mansiysk is considered to be 1637. It was then that the first settlement appeared on the site of the modern metropolis - the village of Samarovo. Now one of the districts of the city is located at this place. In 1935, the village of Samarovo merged with the new administrative center of Ostyako-Vogulsk, which was later renamed Khanty-Mansiysk. However, the official status of the city of Khanty-Mansiysk received only in 1950.
In the 60s of the twentieth century, Khanty-Mansiysk began to develop actively as a base of geological prospectors and the center of the oil region.
And since the early 2000s, this city has become known throughout the world as a high-level sports center and a venue for various biathlon competitions, including world championships.

This unusual monument has the form of a three-sided pyramid, each of the faces of which symbolizes a separate era: ancient Ugra, the period of conquest of Siberia by the Yermak squad and the time of active development of Siberian oil and gas fields. Inside the pyramid are a museum, a restaurant and an observation deck, which offers a beautiful view of the city.
