The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross of God
Russia, Moscow region, Istra district, Darna village, str. Soviet, 54.
Description:
This amazing church, located in the village of Darna, was built in 1895 according to the project of the Moscow architect S.V. Sherwood. All construction work was carried out at the expense of charitable donations of parishioners. The architectural appearance of the temple is an eclectic alloy of classical ancient Russian elements.
The building of the temple is built of red brick with the inclusion of elements of white stone. The highlight of the temple is the majestic domes and tent finish of the bell tower, lost during the Great Patriotic War and restored only in 1990. Unfortunately, during the war years, the temple was significantly damaged by shelling, including its lateral limits. In the Soviet era, the church was used for household needs as a tractor workshop.
At present, the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross has not only restored divine services, but also created a board of trustees overseeing the provision of assistance to orphanages and orphanages. In addition, near the church fence is the tomb of Blessed Alexandra, whose remains were transferred from the village of Onufriev. Pilgrims come to the tomb to receive blessing or healing.
