Istra reservoir

Russia, Moscow Region, Istra Reservoir

Description:

In the north-west of the Moscow region in the area of the Istra River is located one of the most beautiful man-made lakes of the Moscow region - the Istra reservoir.

Like most reservoirs, the main purpose of Istra is to provide water to the nearest cities and towns, as well as the capital of our Motherland.

The year of foundation of the reservoir is considered 1935, but during the hostilities of the end of 1941, the dam holding water was blown up by fascist troops. It was not possible to restore the dam in incredibly difficult wartime conditions until 1942.

In the postwar period, passenger ships sailed through the Istra reservoir, bringing people from one village to another.

Currently, the Istra reservoir has cultural and entertainment value. In the summer heat, thousands of Muscovites leave the stuffy city, trying to find salvation and life-giving coolness near the lake from the exhausting heat. For them, there are all conditions: numerous recreation centers and sanatoriums are scattered around the shore of the reservoir. Residents of Volokolamsk and Pyatnitsky highways on the lake are regulars.

The reservoir is also known for its famous residents: so near the shore is the Pugacheva Palace, the Millerhof estate, as well as the houses of other celebrities of the Russian stage.
