Korotaeva Mansion
pos. d/o A.P. Chekhova, Istra district, Moscow region, Russian Federation
Description:
The Korotayeva mansion is located on the territory of the Istra sanatorium, founded in the 1950s. The hospital on this place existed much earlier - at the beginning of the XX century, the wife of the famous industrialist and philanthropist Savva Morozov Zinaida Grigorievna, who inherited the state of her husband, allocated to the charity Korotaeva plot for a tuberculosis sanatorium. For construction in 1911, architect I.I. Rerberg was invited, and for two years a building was erected, which went down in history as Karataeva’s mansion.
A two-storey brick mansion with a granite base rises on the banks of the Malaya Istra river. This is a neoclassical building topped with a dome. Thanks to the extensive open terrace with stairs, it is organically connected with the surrounding landscape. The decoration of the building is quite modest. The hall is decorated with Doric columns and a picturesque plafond with decorative painting and decorated with stucco cornice. The covered passage connected the mansion with the house church.
After the revolution, in 1919, on the site of the Karataeva tuberculosis hospital, the Chekhov Sanatorium was opened, which functioned until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In 1948-1949, the sanatorium was transformed, and its buildings were reconstructed, including the Karataeva mansion.
