Ivangorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum

Kingiseppskoe, 6, Ivangorod

About the company:

The Ivangorod Museum was created in 1980 on the basis of architectural monuments of the Ivangorod fortress and a collection of graphic works by artists I. Y. Bilibin and his wife A. V. Shchekatikhina-Pototskaya.

Today, the Ivangorod Museum has three museum objects:

- Ivangorod fortress,

- Art gallery,

- Fortress museum.

The most priority object is the Ivangorod fortress - a unique monument of Russian defensive architecture of the XV - XVII centuries. Fortifications occupy an area of 4.7 hectares, and are differentiated into:

defense structures (walls, 11 towers, cache and battery),

- office premises (arsenal, powder barn),

- religious buildings (Nikolskaya and Assumption Church). Construction was carried out from the end of the XVIII century to the XVII century, since the XVIII century there were only minor changes regarding the internal structures of the fortress.

During the Great Patriotic War, part of the fortifications were destroyed. Restoration works have been completed by about 60%, so the Ivangorod fortress is heterogeneous in terms of safety.

Two towers have observation decks overlooking the Narva Castle and bastions. The second such complex, created according to a single plan, the volume of construction and the degree of safety is not.

At the foot of the fortress hill in the premises of the museum of fortresses (the building of the former customs) there is an exhibition "Military and defensive architecture of the North-West of Russia".

This one-storey brick building was built in the second half of the nineteenth century, and belonged to the Narva merchant Orlov. The permanent exposition of the museum consists of eight wooden models of fortresses of North-Western Russia, written information, photographs and historical objects found during archaeological excavations. The information is unique, compiled from ancient maps, engravings, drawings. The archaeological objects on display in the museum are authentic and in pretty good condition. The decoration of the exposition is a valid electric map with the image of fortresses.

Not far from the fortress in a two-storey stone building of the XIX century - the former mansion of the local merchant F.Y.Panteleev, there is an art gallery, which includes a permanent exhibition "Ivangorod in the past" (materials of local history, archaeology, ethnography), an exhibition of works by I.Y.Bilibin and artists of the association "World of Art", temporary exhibitions.
