About the company:

The Kholui Art Museum was established on a voluntary basis in 1959. At that time, the main purpose of collecting was Kholui miniature painting. But soon the collection of the museum acquired a complex character: the residents of the village and the surrounding area brought household items, icons, old printed and handwritten books, linen embroidered products, paintings by Kholui masters. The Council of Museums appealed to various museums of the country with a request to help in collecting exhibits. The Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the Museum of Folk Art and other institutions responded.

Currently, the collection of the museum is about 5 thousand units of storage. Among them are painting, graphics, sculpture, samples of decorative and applied art. A significant part of the museum’s collection consists of icons that allow to trace in detail the history of Cholui icon painting. The collection of sculptures is based on unique works of art from wood of the XVIII - XIX centuries. The pride of the museum is the collection of embroidery of the XIX - early XXI centuries. These are capes, napkins, towels, porters, tablecloths, made in the traditional for Holui technique of white surface and embroidery-strings. The most extensive collection in the collection of the Holui Museum is the collection of lacquer miniatures, which presents the works of the founders of this art and the works of young artists. Their plots are based on fairy tales, epics, legends, real historical events and nature. Expositions and exhibitions of the State Museum of Holui Art are constantly updated, so tourists visiting the museum can see the work of Kholui masters in all its diversity.
