Excursion "Kaliningrad-city-fortress" November-March

Koenigsberg was founded around 1255 as a castle, and from the second half of the XlX century had the status of a fortress city of the first rank in Europe. It remained so until its capture by the USSR on April 9, 1945.

Throughout its centuries-old history, the city of Koenigsberg was built as a fortress city, starting its history from a Prussian wooden-earth fortress, which turned into a powerful stone castle-fortress of the Teutonic Order. Königsberg Castle eventually became the residence of the supreme masters of the Teutonic Order, then the Dukes of Prussia, later the coronation seat of the kings of Prussia.

For many centuries it was the capital of the state. In the event of military danger (and wars have occurred in every century), one had to think about the safety of the inhabitants and the defense of such an important city.

The development of military engineering has reached serious heights: Prussia could be proud of one of the best fortification schools in Europe. A significant part of the architectural heritage of the present city of Kaliningrad are monuments of fortification of the past.

We will visit one of the largest forts of Koenigsberg on the outer defense belt of the city - Fort No. 5.

We will walk through the Victory Park, visit monuments and memorials to the heroes of the Second World War. After that, we will go to the Kaliningrad Historical and Art Museum and see the three-dimensional panorama “Koenigsberg 45.The Last Assault”, which will mentally take us to the streets of the destroyed city and give you a feeling of the cold breath of war.

The assault of Koenigsberg was a unique military offensive operation of the 3rd Belorussian Front in April 1945. The feat of soldiers and officers of the Red Army is evidenced by numerous monuments of the city.

You will visit the main memorial of Kaliningrad "1200 Guardsmen" - the mass grave of soldiers of the 11th Guards Army, walk through the Victory Park, where the memory of all units of the Red Army that participated in the East Prussian offensive operation, as well as our border guards and soldiers-scouts is immortalized.
