Curonian spit
Description:
Car and walking tour of the Curonian Spit from a guide accredited in the national park.
Curonian Spit National Park is a magical place at any time of the year. The narrow strip of land between the salty Baltic Sea and the freshwater Curonian Bay will charm you with the diversity of its flora and fauna. The Curonian Spit National Park was established in 1987 and is one of the oldest and smallest national parks in Russia. But, despite the “miniature”, the Curonian Spit annually welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests. The natural uniqueness of the national park is that it is the largest sandy patch in the world, which stretches 98 kilometers and is shared between two countries - Russia and Lithuania. Consisting entirely of sand, the Curonian Spit has been recognized as “an exceptional example of a landscape under constant threat from natural forces such as wind and water.” After a devastating human intervention that threatened the existence of the braid, it was restored through stabilization and protection work begun in the nineteenth century and continuing to this day. Now the Curonian Spit Park is protected by the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The Curonian Spit consists of many hiking paths on which we will move, so dress for the weather and be ready to overcome hiking eco routes.
There are several routes along the entire length of the Russian part (48 km). We will be able to visit the Dancing Forest, the height of Efa, to choose from Müller Height or Fringill Ornithological Station, walk through the avant-garde to the raging sea and see the calm and windless Curonian Bay.
The trip can be extended, because there are still many interesting and non-tourist paths on the Curonian Spit, but you can walk along them only with a proven guide. (Extra time is agreed individually)
Be sure to eat delicious fresh or smoked fish in one of the most delicious establishments in the park.
