Pravdinsk Railway
Description:
I propose to make a “time travel” and go to the southeast of the Kaliningrad region.
Driving along the magnificent alleys, different pages of centuries-old history will flash before us, but first of all I will tell you about the conquest of the Prussian tribes by the knights of the Teutonic Order, about the peculiarities of their life, construction and state structure. Of course, we will remember about later history – Peter I, Napoleon, numerous immigrants – the history of Europe was repeatedly made in these places.
Our path lies in Pravdinsk (Fridland). Here you can climb the tower of the Cathedral of St. George the Victorious (16th century) - the same one, from the height of which in 1807 officers of the Russian army watched the course of the battle with Napoleon's army.
Then we go to P. Railroad, former Gerdaouen. A town that has preserved its buildings since pre-war times. You will see all the features of half-timbered buildings, as if getting into a typical German town. We will also climb the mountain to the ruins of Gerdaouen Castle, which offers magnificent views of the pond and the church.
In the summer, if you have desire and strength, you can visit the medieval settlement of Ushkuy, carefully built by a team of reenactors, and the waterfalls of the hydroelectric power plant built in 1922.
